The Grand Opening of Ruby Ellen Designs

Ruby Ellen Designs (RED) is now open for business in Calgary, and is offering a revolutionary approach to customer service.

After providing 25 years of design services to brides throughout southern Alberta, opening their own boutique was a dream come true.

“It took a lot of blood sweat and tears to get here, it required a little magic as well,” said master dress maker Ruby Johnson.

The grand opening, which drew approximately 100 people, was titled A Little Magic and was held Jan. 18 at the store’s location of 1023 12th Ave. S.W.

The event featured drinks, snacks, entertainment, as well as a free handmade silk scarf for each woman who attended.

Parking attendants were also present to ensure those in attendance arrived safely back at their vehicles.

“That is was RED is all about,” said Johnson, “giving more than expected with careful attention to detail.”

The entertainment for the evening included a fashion show hosted by Master Sarah Moanies, featuring fashions by Haute Couture designs and a magic show by Gwyn.

Johnson enjoyed sewing as a hobby ever since she was a child.

She explained that whenever she works with fabric, her fingers tingle with excitement.

Prior to her boutique opening Johnson worked in a southern Alberta non-profit retreat centre, but always made time for craft shows where she could market her products.

While the boutique is known for its stunning evening and bridal wear, it also concentrates in specialty sizes.
