The University of Calgary hosted the 2015 Calgary Indoor Track Series Championship at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium on Feb 2. 2015.
The SAIT Trojans track squad took part as part as a tune-up for Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) competition and provincial championships at the end of February in Edmonton.
“These are warm-up races before the indoor track championship,” said the head coach, Jamie Grant, who has been coaching the Trojans for six years.
“This is our second official year doing track,” said Grant.
Before the 3,000m race, Alison McPherson (3rd year, Environmental Technology) expressed confidence in her teammate, Becca Gould (2nd year, New Media Production and Design).
“Becca is an excellent runner, she’ll definitely finish well,” McPherson said.
Gould finished the 3,000m race at U of C in fifth place, in a time of 11:33.45.
Her teammate Meg Jorgenson (2nd year, Medical Radiologic Technology) ended the 600m in fourth place with a time of 1:52.93 while Jayme Nagy (2nd year, Medical Radiologic Technology) reached the fifth place with 1:53.93.
The men’s team also obtained positive results in the 600m and 3000m.
Tom Strachan (1st year, Emergency Medical Technician) got a fourth place in the 600m race with 1:31.24, while Sean Hickey (3rd year, Bachelor of Business Administration) ended up with a record of 9:56.66 by reaching the third place in the 3000m.
Both teams completed four races, the 300m, 600, 3000 and a 4×4 r00m relay finishing in third place behind Concordia University College of Alberta and Lethbridge College, which obtained first place in overall points.
