Christmas comes early at the Lougheed House

At Lougheed House, the Christmas festivities started this year in mid-November.

Lougheed House, 707 13th Ave. S.W., is attractive without all the Christmas decorations, but during this festive season, it’s stunning.

Eleven-year-old, Cole Howard, attended this year’s Christmas event at the house for the first time, with his mom, Letitia Taylor.

“It was very different to see decorations in a museum,” said Howard.

Taylor said she felt more in the Christmas spirit after attending the Lougheed House.

“I thought it was very tastefully decorated,” Taylor said. “The simplicity of some of the decorations was amazing, and they all looked incredible.”

Taylor’s favourite part was the opportunity to get ideas of how to decorate her own house.

Each year, a completely different designer decorates every room. All the interior designers come from Calgary Design Group.

Throughout the self-guided tour, there are 16 beautifully decorated trees, tastefully decorated fireplaces, and ornaments and lights in every conceivable space.

Taylor said in the future she would maybe like to see free admission during the holiday season, as she thought it would encourage more people to attend.

“I also think that especially during the Christmas season, money is usually tight for most people,” said Taylor.

Everyone is encouraged to bring their cameras and take their family photos in front of any of their trees.

Howard also said he would enjoy going back to try the restaurant while the Christmas decorations are set up.

Admission to Lougheed House during the exhibition is $8.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors and students and $5 for children ages 6-12. The Christmas display is open until Dec. 18.
