{"id":37900,"date":"2017-10-28T14:18:52","date_gmt":"2017-10-28T20:18:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/?p=37900"},"modified":"2017-10-28T14:18:52","modified_gmt":"2017-10-28T20:18:52","slug":"some-thrown-for-a-loop-at-beakerhead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/2017\/10\/28\/some-thrown-for-a-loop-at-beakerhead\/","title":{"rendered":"Some thrown for a Loop at Beakerhead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">B<\/span>eakerhead\u2019s illuminated cylinder, called Loop, lit up 4<sup>th<\/sup> Street S.W. in Mission, from Sept. 13-17.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">L<\/span>oop is a motion activated two-metre retro-futuristic cylinder that makes fairytale inspired images come to life in a rotating flip book fashion.<\/p>\n<p>It was one of 14 attractions in this year&#8217;s Snakes and Ladders themed event for \u00a0participants and casual onlookers to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s mesmerizing watching the images come to life,\u201d said Cheryl Wan, a 19 year-old Calgarian who participated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/beakerhead.com\/\">Beakerhead<\/a> event.<\/p>\n<p>The attraction allowed two people to sit inside, face-to-face, and separated divided by a large lever.<\/p>\n<p>By cranking the metal lever back and fourth, the paintings spin around, while lighting up the entire cylinder and playing audio that compliments the mystery fairytale behind the glass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFiguring out the mystery fairytale of each loop is satisfying,\u201d said Wan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt really allows you to appreciate the art with a new perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A total of six Loop units were installed by Creos Experts-Conseils Inc. for Beakerhead to showcase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s simply big playful artwork,\u201d said Regis Prolux, head of production at Creos Experts-Conseils.<\/p>\n<p>Originally 13 Loops were created for a contest called Luminoth\u00e9rapie in Quebec by artist Jonathan Villeneuve, musical artist Oliver Girouard, and Ottoblix.<\/p>\n<p>It was produced with the support of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership of Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>The installation won Luminoth\u00e9rapie, which allowed six out of the 13 units to travel across Canada and take part in Beakerhead.<\/p>\n<p>Once Beakerhead concluded, the Loops was sent to Switzerland for people to interact with in other events.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_37963\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37963\" style=\"width: 615px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-37963\" src=\"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170916-BeakerNight-JT-0019.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"923\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-37963\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Loop of Love: <\/strong>Loop is one of 14 Beakerhead installations in Calgary on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017.
