T<\/span>he Las Vegas massacre on Oct. 2 has not only Americans, but also Canadians demanding something be done about gun control in the United States.<\/p>\n

A<\/span>brupt sounds of fireworks at the Route 91 country music festival turned out to be gunshots, which led to the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.<\/p>\n

When 65 year-old Stephen Paddock, who later died the same night, opened fire from the 32nd <\/sup>floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, people started running for their lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike anything else, you\u2019re devastated,\u201d said Constable Graeme Chisholm of the Calgary Police Service.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou feel for the people at the concert. They\u2019re going out there for a night out, and the next thing you know there are 50 odd families and friends lives that are affected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chisholm opened up about his views on gun control in America and said he does think something needs to happen in order to take control of these situations but is uncertain with what can really be done.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes you wonder, with everything that\u2019s gone on before, can something be done?\u201d asked Chisholm.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe National Rifle Association<\/a> is not willing to give up the right to bear arms which is as per The Second Amendment of the Constitution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chisholm isn’t the only one who thinks something needs to be done.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it is just disgusting what this man did,\u201d said Calgarian Barb Reid.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe amount of weapons and ammunition he had is unacceptable and something needs to be done in order to somewhat mediate the issues around gun use,\u201d said Reid.<\/p>\n

Katherine McLay of Calgary agrees that action is needed as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think America should implement similar laws as Canada when it comes to gun control,\u201d said McLay.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has happened far to much for nothing to come of this,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

There has also been talk about these issues only being discussed extensively after a significant tragedy like the most recent one in Las Vegas and that it is not too soon talk about solutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it is ever too soon,\u201d said Chisholm.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that given the magnitude of this one that it won\u2019t dwindle into just an after thought.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope this one does bring it to the forefront, I hope they do address it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chisholm came to Canada with the Royal Air Force from Scotland and then later joined the police service and was issued a gun.<\/p>\n

\u201cI used a gun and carried a gun for 20 years of my service,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the execution of my duties, I felt safe having that gun, I felt it was a necessary part of the police equipment.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ll reiterate, I don\u2019t see the need for people to have guns in their homes, other than farmers, law enforcement and military,\u201d said Chisholm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
