{"id":38958,"date":"2017-10-16T08:00:07","date_gmt":"2017-10-16T14:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/?p=38958"},"modified":"2017-11-11T19:03:14","modified_gmt":"2017-11-12T02:03:14","slug":"theres-fun-amid-the-corn-stalks-at-the-autumn-pumpkin-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/2017\/10\/16\/theres-fun-amid-the-corn-stalks-at-the-autumn-pumpkin-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"There&#8217;s fun amid the corn stalks at the Autumn Pumpkin Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">O<\/span>ctober brings in the Autumn Pumpkin Festival at Calgary\u2019s Corn Maze.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">A<\/span>t an admission rate of $14 for ages 3 and up, the event has been a popular attraction every fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a perfect activity for families, couples and friends,\u201d said Debra Channing, employee at the pumpkin patch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPicking out the perfect pumpkin and working together to either bake it, decorate it or carve it, I think it\u2019s a fun group activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A free miniature pumpkin is given for the purpose of the Pumpkin Patch crafts, where everyone can decorate their little gourd.<\/p>\n<p>Other than mini-pumpkins, the patch offers varieties of pumpkins, based on their use.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the typical pumpkin, there are ghost pumpkins, white in colour, and pie pumpkins, best for baking a seasonal treat.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The admission also includes other attractions.<\/p>\n<p>With Jumping Pillows, Calgary Corn Maze Railway, Potato Sack Slide, Friendly Fire, the Candy Blast, the petting zoo and miniature golf, there\u2019s more than enough fun for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>The festival always includes the Pumpkin Blast where an air compressor is used to blow up a pumpkin, and the Candy blast, where candy is shot out of cannons for everyone to catch.<\/p>\n<p>Winning the Certificate of Excellence 2015 from TripAdvisor and the Parents\u2019 Choice Awards 2016, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgarycornmaze.com\/\">Calgary&#8217;s corn maze<\/a> is the main attraction of the farm, bringing in visitors from all over Alberta.<\/p>\n<p>The corn stalks reach a height of five feet in October after harvest, giving the maze a sense of adventure and nostalgia.<\/p>\n<p>Though many of the events catch the eye of a younger people, the farm has an atmosphere that people of all ages can enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel Louise, a mother of twin daughters, proves that everyone can have fun.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s a perfect activity for families, couples and friends. &#8211; Debra Channing<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been bringing the girls here since they\u2019ve been able to walk,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s kind of a tradition.
