{"id":38979,"date":"2017-10-20T08:00:30","date_gmt":"2017-10-20T14:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/?p=38979"},"modified":"2021-02-12T09:21:57","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T16:21:57","slug":"yyc-pizza-week-brings-people-together-one-slice-at-a-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/2017\/10\/20\/yyc-pizza-week-brings-people-together-one-slice-at-a-time\/","title":{"rendered":"YYC Pizza Week brings people together, one slice at a time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">C<\/span>algarians showed their support for Meals on Wheels by purchasing pizza\u2019s for the third annual <a href=\"http:\/\/YYC Pizza Week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YYC Pizza Week<\/a> from Sept. 22 to Oct. 1.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">W<\/span>ith every purchase of a uniquely made pizza from one of more than 44 restaurants across the city, $3 went to the<a href=\"http:\/\/Calgary Meals on Wheels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Calgary Meals on Wheels<\/a> foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Mattock, the marketing and communications co-ordinator working with the foundation,\u00a0 said, \u201cCalgary Meals on Wheels is a proven leader in providing healthy, locally made meals to our city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>YYC Pizza Week is important for many reasons, Mattock added, the largest being the amount the business gives back to the charity throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn three years, YYC Pizza Week has raised more than $25,000 for local charities,\u201d Mattock added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYYC Pizza Week gives us another great reason to go out and explore our city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Included in the 44 restaurants participating in YYC Pizza Week is <a href=\"http:\/\/The Italian Centre Shop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Italian Centre Shop<\/a>, which has supported the cause for the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s phenomenal what Meals on Wheels does,\u201d said the manager of The Italian Centre Shop, Gino Marghella.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are aligned with Meals on Wheels. We are really into feeding big families, it brings us into the community,\u201d Marghella added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try to give back as much as we can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>YYC Pizza Week not only brings the community together, Marghella said, it also exposes people to different restaurants, and allows the chefs to be as creative as they want in creating a new pizza for the week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt bonds all the restaurants together.
