{"id":40581,"date":"2017-11-27T11:52:23","date_gmt":"2017-11-27T18:52:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/?p=40581"},"modified":"2021-02-12T09:20:49","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T16:20:49","slug":"millarville-christmas-market-brings-the-holiday-spirit-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/2017\/11\/27\/millarville-christmas-market-brings-the-holiday-spirit-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Millarville Christmas Market brings the holiday spirit home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he annual Millarville Christmas Market fired up again for an indoor and outdoor family shopping experience, from Nov. 9-12.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">S<\/span>ince starting in 1988, the event has grown to be widely popular, with as many as 15,000 people from the Calgary and southern Alberta area attending throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The event is hosted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.millarvilleracetrack.com\">Millarville Racing<\/a> and Agricultural Society, which has more than 300 members and 300 volunteers and\u00a0is a showcase for Alberta vendors, artisans and farmers.<\/p>\n<p>Saskatoon berry growers Rick and Marsha Gelowitz, owners of Solstice Berry Farm, in Cremona, Alta. planned to show off this season&#8217;s fresh berry products like jams, pies and juice.<\/p>\n<p>Solstice Berry Farm is located next to their home. There, the Gelowitz\u2019s produce quality berries for U-pick and farmers markets.<\/p>\n<p>Marsha Gelowitz offers tastings of their jams, juices and vinaigrettes at the market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a classic for a lot of Canadians, especially on the Prairies. The Saskatoon jam is for sure the most popular buy this year, with the syrup close behind,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Another event planned this year was the all-day glass blowing, by the Glass House Collective, an artisan group that operates the only mobile glass blowing studio in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Mandy Patchin and Kai Scholefield planned to create different types of glass pieces to show off their art.<\/p>\n<p>Patchin\u2019s end goal is a trip across North America to showcase her art.
