SAIT Recreation has just the ticket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>AIT boasts a wide variety of athletic and recreation activities for students and staff that are also open to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe hope that there\u2019s something for everyone,&#8221; says\u00a0Amanda Gill, SAIT\u2019s recreation co-ordinator.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;[For example], spikeball If you want to play ice hockey there\u2019s that too, there\u2019s yoga, there\u2019s dance, there\u2019s a wide variety,\u201d Gill said in a recent interview.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">SAIT&#8217;s facilities include a bowling alley, a salt water pool, an NHL sized arena, a gymnasium and other activity rooms located in the Campus Centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">SAIT offers many different intramural sports from dodgeball and Ultimate Frisbee to hockey and volleyball.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Registration for indoor winter sports begins Jan. 8, 2018 at 8 a.m. for both hockey and court sports and ends Jan. 16 and 23 at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Every week Monday to Thursday there are fitness, yoga, wellness and martial arts courses that typically run for 13 weeks of each semester.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Gill encourages students to come out to try activities with drop-in classes or during their wellness weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If they enjoy themselves, they can buy a RecX pass.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A RecX pass can be purchased for for $55 which allows students to attend one class of each type each week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">SAIT offers a few wellness weeks a year which are free activity weeks for students to try out activities and get a break from school and exams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Dec. 11-14 wellness week will include a \u201ctin for the bin\u201d option\u00a0 for food bank donations as drop in fees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity for people to participate if they don\u2019t have a RecX pass and we\u2019ll heavily program yoga that week because it\u2019s exam week,\u201d said Gill.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he first wellness week of the new year will be Jan. 15-19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Gill is hoping more students will come out to experience what there is to offer and in turn enjoy and continue participating in the programs and events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">To get away from the business of the city, SAIT is also offering an outdoor adventures program. There are two upcoming snowshoeing trips and there already have been two hiking trips.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">We hope that there\u2019s something for everyone. &#8211; Amanda Gill<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">For those a little less active, SAIT participates in the E-gaming with semi-competitive tournaments that include opportunities to win prizes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The tournaments are held in the Gateway in the Campus Centre and projected onto the big screens on stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The next tournament is Call of Duty and will happen on Feb. 6, 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Recreation guides with information about each of the activities, fees, and special events are found in the athletic and recreation offices in the Campus Centre.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>The recreation program at SAIT offers many different options for students to get active and take a break from all the schoolwork. <a class=\"mh-excerpt-more\" href=\"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/2017\/12\/09\/want-to-get-moving-sait-recreation-has-just-the-ticket\/\" title=\"Want to get moving?
