{"id":41105,"date":"2017-12-10T15:35:23","date_gmt":"2017-12-10T22:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/?p=41105"},"modified":"2021-02-07T20:16:08","modified_gmt":"2021-02-08T03:16:08","slug":"holiday-spirit-arrives-right-on-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/2017\/12\/10\/holiday-spirit-arrives-right-on-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Holiday spirit arrives right on schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">C<\/span>algary kicked off the holilday season in December with many communities hosting free public events for people to join in for some Christmas cheer.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>here was no shortage of options to choose from, with free family events sprouting up all over the city.<\/p>\n<p>The community of Hillhurst-Sunnyside began December with its seventh annual Christmas in Kensington on Dec. 2, which featured Santa Claus to greet those passing by, coffee and treats, horse carriage rides, and a screening of the film \u201cLove Acutally,\u201d at the Plaza Theatre. It was all free for anybody to participate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy favourite part of [the event] is how fun it is,\u201d said Annie MacInnis, a representative of the Kensington Business Revitalization Zone, and organizer of Christmas in Kensington.<\/p>\n<p>The event is not-for-profit, and is funded by all the businesses in the Kensington area, MacInnis said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an event that you can bring your children to, or that you can come to if you don\u2019t have a lot of money,\u201d said MacInnis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe fill the movie theatre every Saturday, and it\u2019s such a great atmosphere,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Christmas in Kensington will continue every Saturday throughout the month of December, with a Christmas movie being shown each weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Downtown Calgary also invited folks to participate in a public skate at Olympic plaza and witness a performance by DJ Clauz, at the Skate Nights with DJ Clauz event on Dec. 2.<\/p>\n<p>DJ Clauz, otherwise known as Christian Greiffenstein, a local performer who also goes by the stage name DJ Worldwide, said he just assumed his Christmas alias recently, and enjoys bringing people together to celebrate the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been doing shows for schools,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It just seemed like a neat idea for Christmas,\u201d said Greiffenstein.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about sharing who you are with other people, and everyone coming together as one. That kind of idea is what I love the most about Christmas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Skate Nights with DJ Clauz will be occurring every Saturday of December, and invites skaters of all skill levels.
