{"id":42097,"date":"2018-03-06T20:46:40","date_gmt":"2018-03-07T03:46:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/?p=42097"},"modified":"2018-03-06T20:46:40","modified_gmt":"2018-03-07T03:46:40","slug":"saitsa-to-break-ground-on-new-headquarters-in-spring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/2018\/03\/06\/saitsa-to-break-ground-on-new-headquarters-in-spring\/","title":{"rendered":"SAITSA to break ground on new headquarters in spring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">S<\/span>AITSA expects construction of a new student <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saitsahq.com\/\">headquarters\u00a0<\/a>to start this spring.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he new building, to rise just southeast of the Campus Centre, won&#8217;t be just for SAITSA though. It will also be a student centred area, says a spokesperson for the association.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be an all student-focused space,\u201d Shona White, the SAITSA marketing and communications assistant manager, said in an article published in the student newspaper The Weal.<\/p>\n<p>The new building is expected to be open in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Students seem to be very excited about the new space for them.<\/p>\n<p>Benjamin Ulrich, a hospitality student at SAIT, said he is particularly excited for the idea of a new and improved Gateway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d go to the Gateway,\u201d said Ulrich.<\/p>\n<p>What he hopes from the new student centre is more options for courses students could use.<\/p>\n<p>He thinks if they added more class options and things to do, it would increase the number of students that go to SAIT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew students equal more money, which in theory, would mean smaller tuition payments,\u201d said Ulrich.<\/p>\n<p>He said he wishes he could be around when the new space is completed so he can see it and put it to use.<\/p>\n<p>The building will cost $25 million, but students have already raised $10 million of that cost.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter living in residence and having to deal with construction early in the morning, I\u2019m not looking forward to more,\u201d Ulrich said.<\/p>\n<p>Others, like Tyler Porter, feel as though there is not enough study space for students at the moment, so a new building would really help.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s going to be an all student-focused space. &#8211; Shona White<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Porter said places like the Senator Burns building are always crowded and don\u2019t have sufficient space during the day for students to do their work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator Burns has tiny tables and no space for everyone that needs it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No other building is good for that either, so I think if we have a new building, the problem could be solved,\u201d said Porter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Ground will break for SAITSA&#8217;s new headquarters in spring. <a class=\"mh-excerpt-more\" href=\"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/2018\/03\/06\/saitsa-to-break-ground-on-new-headquarters-in-spring\/\" title=\"SAITSA to break ground on new headquarters in spring\">[ READ MORE ]<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"author":434,"featured_media":42123,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"image","meta":{"_ef_editorial_meta_text_assignment-slug":"S1 Student Centre","footnotes":""},"categories":[13,2,510],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-42097","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-image","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"category-campus-2","9":"category-saitsa","10":"post_format-post-format-image"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/42097","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/434"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=42097"}],"version-history":[{"count":9,"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/42097\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":43699,"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/42097\/revisions\/43699"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/42123"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=42097"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=42097"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=42097"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
