S<\/span>AIT\u2019s Enactus<\/a> club, the student-led world-wide non-profit organization that builds projects addressing social, environmental and economic issues, took part in the annual Enactus Western Canada Regional Exposition at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary on March 1 and 2.<\/p>\n

D<\/span>uring the exposition, Enactus SAIT<\/a> members planned to present two of its projects: Hatchet and Case Clash.<\/p>\n

Project Hatchet, a module-recycling project that aims to create a recycling program for SAIT, was to be presented for the Scotiabank Eco-Living Green Challenge, which supports students\u2019 projects that seek viable solutions to environmental issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to upcycle our plastic waste into a new product,\u201d said Samuel Timms, president of Enactus SAIT, in an interview prior to the event.<\/p>\n

The Case Clash project, which creates business case analysis for high school students, was to be presented for the Scotiabank Youth Empowerment Challenge, which focuses on students\u2019 projects that address opportunities for the youth related to education, learning skills, and life-long success.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Case Clash] is business education based on post-secondary curriculum content, kind of an elementary level for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe partner with local businesses and build the case about a current problem or a potential problem they [the businesses] could be facing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Timms said Enactus SAIT was to compete with about 23 universities and colleges across Western Canada, including the British Columbia Institute of Technology, University of British Columbia, University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Regina.<\/p>\n

Within the province, the club was to face the University of Calgary, MacEwan University, NAIT, Mount Royal University and Bow Valley College.<\/p>\n

After the exposition, the best projects get a monetary compensation that goes to the project\u2019s funding.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a secondary booster for the project.\u201d<\/p>\n

Timms’ goal was to give a high-quality presentation during the exposition.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to have an excellent presentation and performance because we had a late start.\u201d<\/p>\n

Timms mentioned the club would not rest after regionals, as it has to prepare for the National exposition in May and to create more projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to get the team together and do a brainstorming night.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will figure out if we\u2019re going to start new projects and what they\u2019re going to be about.\u201d<\/p>\n

The SAIT Enactus Club is coming up on its 10th anniversary. It was founded by the faculty advisor of the school of business at SAIT, Cameron Gall.<\/p>\n

According to its website, there are 74 Enactus clubs across Canada and about 1,730 clubs worldwide.<\/p>\n
