(Photo by Khaleel Haji\/The Press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">I<\/span>n the heart of the busy area of Kensington in northwest Calgary, lies a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diffen.com\/difference\/Bar_vs_Pub\">pub<\/a> with the same character and history as the district itself.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he aptly named Kensington Pub, known to regulars as \u201cK-pub,\u201d is an English-style pub that caters to Calgarians from all areas of the city, as well as tourists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to find a good bar in town that you can get traditional pub food at,\u201d says Chris Morrison, who moved here from London three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a very homey place, and it\u2019s perfect for a weekend pint with the family or friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cobblestone pub, with its creeping vines and stereotypical U.K. aesthetic, switched ownership in 1993 to Lynn Porteous and her brother Bill. They wanted to bring some anglo-style flare to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitcalgary.com\/places\/kensington-village\">Kensington\u2019s<\/a> unique environment.<\/p>\n<p>They quickly transformed the joint and, with the help of their family, went on to establish a name as one of the best pubs in town.<\/p>\n<p>The involvement of family has given the pub meaning to Lynn and Bill beyond serving great food and drinks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe always feel at home when we come here,\u201d says Louise Raymond, a frequent visitor to Kensington Pub.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all family run, so the service we get is consistent and we\u2019ve made a real connection with the owners, so it\u2019s a great experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Traditional English comfort foods are the mainstays of the menu, which aims to deliver dishes that are not only delicious, but give a taste of home to those who come from the U.K.<\/p>\n<p>From puddings to pastries, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fish_and_chips\">fish and chips<\/a> to curries, the variety matches the distinct cultural melting pot that is London.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is quite the variety offered here,\u201d says Janet James, a newcomer to the pub, which is on 10A Street, just north of Kensington Road N.W.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe menu is really diverse.
