(Photo by Labib Ahmad\/The Press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he Ahmadiyya Muslim Community raised more than $22,000 on Sept. 14, from its eighth annual Run for Calgary.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he community partnered with the Canadian Blood Services to host this race at the Eau Claire Market downtown.<\/p>\n<p>Just over 400 people came out to participate in the run, which had a 10 km and a 5 km run, and 3 km run\/walk for kids and seniors.<\/p>\n<p>The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has held Run for Calgary every year since 2012, partnering with various charities and non-profit organizations around the city.<\/p>\n<p>This year the run supported Canadian Blood Services in its efforts to build recruitment programs that successfully engage diverse community groups and the next generation in blood donors.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, they partnered with the Alberta Children\u2019s Hospital to raise funds for kids in need.<\/p>\n<p>Calgary Mayor Naheed Neshi joined the event himself, to raise awareness and participate in the run.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love events like this,\u201d Nenshi said. \u201cI love that they are just about building community together, and showing that every single one of us has something to give.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his opening remarks to all the attendees, Nenshi asked everyone to give the person standing next to them a high five<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat that does is build community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo as I leave the stage, turn to the person next to you and give them a high five, and tell them that you\u2019re glad they\u2019re here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nenshi thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for holding the run and bringing people together for a great cause.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_50932\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50932\" style=\"width: 2560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-50932\" src=\"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190914-Run-For-Calgary-2019-LA-0099-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190914-Run-For-Calgary-2019-LA-0099-2.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190914-Run-For-Calgary-2019-LA-0099-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190914-Run-For-Calgary-2019-LA-0099-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190914-Run-For-Calgary-2019-LA-0099-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-50932\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mayor Naheed Nenshi poses with a Canadian Blood Services sign to show support for the 8th annual Run For Calgary at Eau Claire Market on Sept. 14. (Photo by Labib Ahmad\/The Press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Naeem Chaudhary, from the Ahmadiyya community, said the event is not only to fund-raise but to also give back to the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year with the Canadian Blood Services, it was about raising money but more importantly it was about the awareness to save lives,\u201d Chaudhary said.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the fund-raising, information was given out to all the runners on how important it is to donate blood.<\/p>\n<p>Chaudhary said the response from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has been amazing.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Blood Services said they were very thankful for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community as this donation would help them in many ways.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlood, plasma, stem cells, organs, and tissues are a critical part of everyday medical care,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe money that comes from the run will be put into research and innovation to better help those in need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musawir Muzaffar, the winner of the 3 km run\/walk, said that this was an amazing experience for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was crazy to win the race,\u201d Muzaffar said, \u201cand I didn\u2019t know Nenshi was coming, so that made this win even better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Muzaffar is currently in Grade 8 and has attended the race every year since it was started.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery year I wait for the race because it\u2019s not just about the race, we always donate to good causes that help those in need,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_50930\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50930\" style=\"width: 1707px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-50930\" src=\"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190914-Run-For-Calgary-2019-LA-0030-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1707\" height=\"2560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190914-Run-For-Calgary-2019-LA-0030-2.jpg 1707w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190914-Run-For-Calgary-2019-LA-0030-2-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190914-Run-For-Calgary-2019-LA-0030-2-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190914-Run-For-Calgary-2019-LA-0030-2-683x1024.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1707px) 100vw, 1707px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-50930\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Participants of the 8th Annual Run For Calgary stretch out before the run at Eau Claire Market on Sept. 14.
