(Photo by Emma Swanson\/The Press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgaryfarmersmarket.ca\/whats-happening\/second-market-location\">Calgary Farmers\u2019 Market<\/a> has plans to open a second 50,000-square-foot market in the northwest community of Greenwich by 2021.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">A<\/span>manda Langbroek, marketing and events specialist for the Calgary Farmers\u2019 Market, said that a second market is both \u2018\u2019wanted and needed\u2019\u2019 by Calgarians in the northwest.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to go for a second market was reached after test markets were run over the summer.<\/p>\n<p>Langbroek said in an interview that the initial pursuit of a second market \u2018\u2019felt a bit risky\u2019\u2019 because the Calgary Farmers\u2019 Market will be the first farmers\u2019 market in North America to have a second location.<\/p>\n<p>The Calgary Farmers\u2019 Market hosted a series of five pop-up markets near the construction site of the future Greenwich market on Greenbriar Way N.W. over the summer. Their last pop-up market was on Sept. 14.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019We\u2019ve been really motivated by seeing how excited people are at the pop-up markets,\u2019\u2019 said Langbroek. \u2018\u2019People love these vendors.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Langbroek said that the second market will be able to meet the demand there is from the northwest for a closer location.<\/p>\n<p>The second market will be located across the Trans-Canada Highway from Winsport and will be 15 minutes away from downtown Calgary.<\/p>\n<p>The existing location is on Blackfoot Trail, just north of Heritage Drive S.E., and just west of the Deerfoot Meadows shopping area and Ikea.<\/p>\n<p>The new market will be bringing 75 per cent of businesses and vendors now in the existing market.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019We gave our vendors the first chance to express if they wanted to be a part of the second market,\u2019\u2019 said Langbroek, as they want to make them a priority in the \u2018\u2019current economic times.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019We\u2019re like a little family,\u2019\u2019 said Langbroek. &#8220;It\u2019s great to grow and expand with vendors that people trust.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Sascha Kalivoda, a partner of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgaryfarmersmarket.ca\/vendors\/view\/lotus_herbal_health\">Lotus Herbal Health<\/a> outlet at the Calgary Farmers\u2019 Market, said the second market will be \u2018\u2019very successful\u2019\u2019 because \u2018\u2019there is a big hole in the northwest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019The market will be very successful and I\u2019m excited for it,\u2019\u2019 said Kalivoda.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s great to grow and expand with vendors that people trust. &#8211; Amanda Langbroek<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The second market will also feature produce customers love, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgaryfarmersmarket.ca\/vendors\/view\/gull-valley\">Gull Valley Growers\u2019<\/a> tomatoes.<\/p>\n<p>For the past 15 years, Dennis Pasenan, a southeast Calgary resident, has been visiting the Calgary Farmers\u2019 Market every Friday for the Gull Valley tomatoes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019I eat one tomato for breakfast every day, whether I need to or not,\u2019\u2019 said Pasenan.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_51046\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51046\" style=\"width: 2560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51046\" src=\"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190923-Farmers-Market-ES-0002-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190923-Farmers-Market-ES-0002-1.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190923-Farmers-Market-ES-0002-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190923-Farmers-Market-ES-0002-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190923-Farmers-Market-ES-0002-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51046\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Innisfail Growers:<\/strong> The Calgary Farmers&#8217; Market in southeast Calgary on Sept. 20, 2019.
