(Photo by Kajol Bhatia\/The Press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>[dropcap]M[\/dropcap]en have started growing out their facial hair to show support for the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/ca.movember.com\">Movember<\/a><\/em> movement but some believe it\u2019s now just a fad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are so many men growing mustaches, just for the sake of it,&#8221; said David Morales, a peer support worker at the <a href=\"https:\/\/cmha.calgary.ab.ca\">Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Calgary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just become a fad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Movember<\/em> movement focuses on raising awareness and funds for prostate and testicular cancer research, and other projects that support men\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of other movements that enable people to take certain steps towards what their cause is whereas Movember doesn\u2019t have any of that,\u201d Morales said in a recent interview<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just commercializing masculinity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do applaud them for gathering money and putting it towards prostate cancer research but, there is way more that they could be doing,\u201d Morales said.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.movember.com\/about\/foundation\"><em>Movember<\/em><\/a> website says that the campaign is \u201cthe leading charity changing the face of men\u2019s health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They also claim to know \u201cwhat works for men and what doesn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t even know there was a movement for prostate cancer before my friends told me,\u201d said Artur de Sousa, a petroleum engineering technology student at SAIT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m new to this movement and others should know about it too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sousa, along with his friends, is growing out his beard to show his support for the <em>Movember<\/em> campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew women had various movements but never heard about one for men,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51997\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51997\" style=\"width: 2560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-51997 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/20191023-Movember-Movement-KB-0022.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1887\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/20191023-Movember-Movement-KB-0022.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/20191023-Movember-Movement-KB-0022-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/20191023-Movember-Movement-KB-0022-768x566.jpg 768w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/20191023-Movember-Movement-KB-0022-1024x755.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/20191023-Movember-Movement-KB-0022-80x60.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51997\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Grow a mo&#8217;:<\/strong> Artur de Sousa, a Petroleum Engineering Technology student at SAIT, poses in the Johnson-Cobbe Energy Centre building on SAIT campus on Oct. 23.
