They give the chopsticks a second life by recycling those into all different kinds of home decoration items.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">A<\/span>s many restaurants serve disposable chopsticks due to COVID-19, <a href=\"https:\/\/chopvalue.com\">ChopValue YYC<\/a> hopes more restaurants and people will join their recycling program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of the chopsticks are not coming back because people don\u2019t know,\u201d said Kim Osz, a collection partner coordinator at ChopValue YYC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is free,\u201d she added. \u201cWe are going to pick the chopsticks up from your restaurants, you can also mail them to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joanne Dafoe is the president of ChopValue YYC who believes that Calgary can do better with the chopsticks other than throwing them into compost bins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBamboo chopsticks are a great renew resource, but they get tossed after 20 minutes being used,\u201d Dafoe said. \u201cWhy not turn them into something that is beautiful and practical?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The primary focus of ChopValue YYC is to save every chopstick from ending up in a landfill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRescue as many chopsticks as possible, that is just what we want,\u201d Osz said.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by ChopValue YYC, they recycled around 6.7 million chopsticks in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/calgaryherald.com\/news\/local-news\/city-recommends-50m-expansion-for-calgarys-oversubscribed-composting-plant\">city officials<\/a>, Calgary is expanding the city\u2019s composting facility by spending $50 million due to operating beyond its capacity.
