{"id":64602,"date":"2022-01-28T12:17:33","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T19:17:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/?p=64602"},"modified":"2022-02-07T16:53:06","modified_gmt":"2022-02-07T23:53:06","slug":"calgary-singles-now-have-opportunity-to-meet-face-to-face-in-17th-avenue-get-off-the-apps-and-onto-the-ave-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/2022\/01\/28\/calgary-singles-now-have-opportunity-to-meet-face-to-face-in-17th-avenue-get-off-the-apps-and-onto-the-ave-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Say goodbye to ghosting, swiping, catfishing and being stood up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">C<\/span>algary singles now have an opportunity to meet with fellow Calgarians \u2013 in-person \u2013 at the \u2018Get off the apps and onto the Ave\u2019 event on 17 Avenue.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he 17 Avenue Retail and Entertainment District Business Improvement Area (BIA) is hosting the event, which stretches along the Red Mile and starts with a kickoff party at the Whiskey Rose Saloon, a Nashville inspired honky-tonk bar.<\/p>\n<p>The Calendar of events include singles mixers, speed dating, wine tasting, drag shows, live music, karaoke nights, and much more.<\/p>\n<p>Tulene Steiestol, the executive director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/17thave.ca\/\">17 Avenue Retail and Entertainment District BIA,<\/a> says this event is for single Calgarians who want to ditch the dating apps and meet people face-to-face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we&#8217;ve been in various forms of lockdowns, and life has changed significantly,\u201d Steiestol said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople miss just leaving the house, or having a reason to leave the house, and have been stuck on their technologies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time that the 17 Avenue BIA is putting on the event, and Steiestol says that they have already seen major success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor all of the events that are ticketed or that registrations required, they&#8217;ve all been sold out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The BIA is responsible for more than 700 businesses that fall within its corridor, and having a marketing campaign that runs through slower business months, such as January and February, gives businesses the economic boost they need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s inspiring people to leave the house, quite frankly, and people are getting introduced to new businesses that they might not have ever explored before, and that&#8217;s part of the plan, to let people know that our businesses are open and are conducting themselves safely,&#8221;
