Meanwhile, others find it difficult to do the same.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">\u201c<\/span>Most of the time I am afraid to speak with people,&#8221; says David Virgilio. an international student from Mexico currently taking a photo course at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sait.ca\/\">SAIT<\/a>. \u201cI am afraid of being misunderstood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the world becoming more globalized, and an overwhelming presence of social media users around the global using English as the mainstream language, individuals like Virgilio often find it difficult to express their thoughts and beliefs with the fear of being misunderstood and judged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not easy to start over your life from scratch in another country \u2014 learn another language, another culture and another weather,&#8221; says Diana Garcia, a wife, mother, and former SAIT student.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia, who moved to Canada as an international student alongside her husband and kids. had to unlearn her previous way of living. She had to adapt to her current lifestyle, while taking a business course, raising kids, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/study-canada\/work\/work-off-campus.html\">working,<\/a> and making an effort to get her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/campaigns\/newcomers.html?utm_campaign=ircc-ircc-newcomer-services22-23-22-23&amp;utm_medium=sem&amp;utm_source=ggl&amp;utm_content=ad-text-en&amp;utm_term=canadian%20permanent%20residency&amp;adv=2223-335550&amp;id_campaign=18798182318&amp;id_source=141713697783&amp;id_content=632375388183&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiAyfybBhBKEiwAgtB7fkYAj2e5igUmk6YCdfq13Fr5ksvvlQGROCH2S32HGu8gdvu_gzKA0BoCTp8QAvD_BwE&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds\">permanent residency<\/a> card.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe beginning was a little bit hard for us.\u201d Said Garcia, \u201cBut with time we have been able to adapt to everything. Now we are so happy to be here, we are grateful to God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most individuals like Garcia move to Canada to further their education and improve their standard of living. Unfortunately, these individuals are not always financially prepared to keep up with living expenses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe programs we offer don\u2019t impact international students as much as other orders of government,&#8221; said Calgary mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jyotigondek.ca\/\">Jyoti Gondek<\/a> who addressed international students in October at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cicnews.com\/2022\/11\/sait-holds-canadas-first-permanent-residence-ceremony-for-alumni-1131803.html\">Permanent Residency Celebration Ceremony for SAIT Alumni.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cWe work with our federal and provincial counterparts to raise awareness of what is happening. It\u2019s our responsibility to make sure that housing is affordable, public transit is available, those are the things we are very committed to in our budget and in our strategic plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With no financial assistance for non-working international students from the government, some students will continue to take gigs such as<a href=\"https:\/\/www.googleadservices.com\/pagead\/aclk?sa=L&amp;ai=DChcSEwiCiO7WpMj7AhW9dm8EHeeDBtMYABACGgJqZg&amp;ae=2&amp;ohost=www.google.com&amp;cid=CAESauD2B6exNRDxxZNBy45qkBHpGtyi-0FTEF-8c_D_EGl4oh-OgYRwAHTWgvdPt2I84Xjx59bkThTmXYzKhFOzb5jE9pmucwjxY3Mq8Qgq6hHw_pQ-5JOdsjCtirZNHKN3st3hJUtFr6otVdA&amp;sig=AOD64_3cJG5eQskS0MvH0mYCZXfKJunT2Q&amp;adurl&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjd2ePWpMj7AhX0JzQIHcIVCA0QqyQoAXoECAgQBg&amp;dct=1\">, Uber Driver<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/dasher.doordash.com\/en-ca\">Doordash Driver<\/a> to meet their basic needs. (Melodie Mutombo\/the press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cYou definitely need to have some financial help either from family or friend,&#8221; said Virgilio whose program requires him to purchase expensive equipment. \u201cThe gear I\u2019m using right now is not mine. One camera is from my mom and another I borrowed from a classmate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Virgilio, who is currently not employed depends on his sister and mother, for financial assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you want to get somewhere in this country you have to be willing to work for it,&#8221; said SAIT alumni Kajol Bhatia \u201cSomething that\u2019s very important is build your network.
