Both the NDP and UCP are competitive there.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">\u201c<\/span>Twelve thousand more people have registered for this election from the past four years,\u201d said Gurinder Brar, NDP\u2019s Calgary-North East MLA candidate. However, Brar mentioned, \u201cIt is not 30,000, it is 40,000 this election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Immigrants are also playing a vital role in the rapid growth of this community. Improving immigration policy is highlighted by both the UCP and NDP candidates in their political campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are developing a new dedicated Alberta Advantage Immigration Program pathway for medical professionals who have a job offer from an Alberta health-care sector employer and who meet the minimum requirements to practice in their profession in Alberta,\u201d\u00a0Rajan Sawhney, the Trade, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister, told the <em>Calgary Herald<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will make sure there is a consistent and smooth path of transition of their credentials from the country they come from,\u201d said Brar.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last four years, Sawhney served as the UCP MLA for Calgary-North East. She is now running in Calgary-North West. Inder Grewal, an entrepreneur, is taking her place as the UCP&#8217;s Calgary-North East candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI made a very difficult choice back in February not to run for re-election and there were a number of personal considerations that I won\u2019t get into,\u201d Sawhney told the <em>Calgary Herald.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When asked to predict the results, most of Calgary-North East&#8217;s residents are either supporting the NDP or the UCP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot imagine Danielle Smith as a premier for four more years,\u201d said Khushdeep Kaur, a daycare worker.<\/p>\n<p>Half of the residents are hoping for Calgary and the provincial government to complete the C-train Blue Line extension. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calgarytransit.com\/content\/transit\/en\/home\/plans---projects\/lrt.html\">Calgary Transit<\/a> plans to extend the northeast leg 7.5 km to 96 Avenue, Country Hills, 128 Avenue, and Stoney Trail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that any party that supports the completion of the Blue Line from Saddletowne might be the party I support,\u201d said Namreet Sidhu, a resident of Redstone. \u201cIt is difficult for me as a student to travel from Redstone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Though neither political party has the Blue Line in their campaign, it is a tiebreaker for young residents of Calgary-North East like Sidhu.<\/p>\n<p>Sawhney was not available for comment on the completion of the Blue Line.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70535\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70535\" style=\"width: 1080px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-70535\" src=\"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/blue.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1877\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/blue.png 1080w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/blue-173x300.png 173w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/blue-589x1024.png 589w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/blue-768x1335.png 768w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/blue-884x1536.png 884w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-70535\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The City of Calgary has plans to extend the C-Train&#8217;s Blue Line in the northeast.
