(Photo by Tim Bati-el\/The Press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he Philippine flag-raising ceremony in Calgary instilled a sense of national pride and unity among the Filipino-Canadian community in commemoration of the country\u2019s 125<sup>th<\/sup> Independence Day.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he Council and Assembly of Filipino Foundations and Associations (CAFFA), organized the event, which was attended by the Philippine Consul General Zaldy Patron. The flag-raising commenced on June 12 at the Calgary&#8217;s City Hall<\/p>\n<p>Patron expressed his gratitude to Calgarians for their support of the Filipino community in observing and commemorating the country\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event symbolizes that the city\u2019s local government is recognizing and accepting us by allowing us to use the place for the official flag-raising ceremony,\u201d Patron said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ward 7 Coun. Terry Wong demonstrated the city\u2019s unwavering support for the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFilipinos have done a lot to create what Calgary is all about,&#8221; said Wong. &#8220;I want to thank the community for coming out to celebrate your culture and nation with Calgarians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Filipino-Calgarian Seniors Club brought an energetic presence, adding liveliness and colour to the celebration through their traditional dresses and dances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFilipino senior citizens here in the city are trying to show young ones the traditions and beliefs of the Philippines through various ways,\u201d said Irene Porcalla, vice-president of the Filipino-Calgarian Seniors Club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vibrancy of the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day has always been up because of the support of CAFFA and the local seniors&#8217; group,&#8221; said Jerry Caingcoy, founder and president of the Filipino Champions of Canada.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70777\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70777\" style=\"width: 2560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-70777\" src=\"http:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/AAA_7566-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/AAA_7566-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/AAA_7566-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/AAA_7566-1024x497.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/AAA_7566-768x373.jpg 768w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/AAA_7566-1536x746.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/saitjournalism.ca\/thepress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/AAA_7566-2048x995.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-70777\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A group of Filipino senior citizens entertained the audience with their cultural dance, wearing colourful traditional costumes at the Philippine flag-raising ceremony at City Hall.
