Y<\/span>ou won\u2019t know what Halloween costumes are popular each year until social media tells you.<\/p>\n

Costumes are what makes Halloween fun and engaging, but most people aren\u2019t aware of which costumes are popular each year until they look at social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re never 100 per cent sure what\u2019s popular, it really does depend on a lot of media,” said Philip Quilloy a sales manager at Don\u2019s Costume Make Up Shop. \u201cWord of mouth is also actually quite powerful.”<\/p>\n

Quilloy also talked about what movie and television characters were popular this year compared to previous years.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year our heroes tend to be really popular \u2014Deadpool is annually really great,” said Quilloy. “Wednesday has also been a super popular addition, and Harry Potter has been popular as well.”<\/p>\n

He also talked about how the popularity of wearing costumes has changed compared to previous years.<\/p>\n

\u201cPost COVID, people are still shy about a lot of things,” said Quilloy. \u201cSo now it\u2019s a lot different people are getting more out of their shells.”<\/p>\n

Quilloy also elaborated on how COVID has changed things.<\/p>\n

\u201cA 100 per cent it has,\u201d said Quilloy. \u201cGatherings are different and while it\u2019s good for safety reasons the fun times seem to be a little more controlled.”<\/p>\n

Charlie Ross, a manager at Don\u2019s Costume Make Up Shop gave tips and advice for people who are trying out makeup for the first time.<\/p>\n

\u201cMake sure that the product you\u2019re using is safe, and it\u2019s what you need for what you\u2019re doing,\u201d said Ross. \u201cThere are times when I have people come in that have seen something done on YouTube that looked really cool and they want to replicate it but they don\u2019t realize that the person that was doing it was just doing it for the few minutes.<\/p>\n

“Then when they want to take it off, they realize the products they were using weren\u2019t very durable for if they wanted to go to a party, or if they wanted to keep it on longer \u2014 so it\u2019s really important to know what it is you want to do and how long you want to keep it on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ross also talked about how much price matters when it comes to makeup.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s funny sometimes people come in and they\u2019ll think because they watched those shows on television where the professional makeup artist used alcohol or paint \u2014 which are the expensive type \u2014 that they need that and they don\u2019t,” said Ross.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have way less expensive makeup that is just as professional that we’ll use and get the same effect.”<\/p>\n

Ross also gave advice on how not to overdo it when it comes to make-up.<\/p>\n

“I always tell people to put on less and then add to it,”said Ross. “It\u2019s easier to add than subtract if you put on too much, your’e gonna wipe it off and start again so always start with subtle and then build on it, so yeah you can overdo it.<\/p>\n
