As 2024 approaches, students are working toward their fitness goals to improve their lifestyles.

There are many resources at SAIT to achieve fitness goals. The temporary gym located by the East Hall allows students easy access to a workout space while the campus centre is being rebuilt.

“We want to provide the top-of-the-line experience for all the people trying to achieve their goals,” said David Negus, sports coordinator for Athletics and Recreation at SAIT.

Students have varying goals when hitting the gym.

“I just want to be strong and I want to be a bodybuilder,” said Mohemed Sarfroz.

Another student, Harpreet Shvdea, says he wants to get fit for herself.

“So that I feel more energetic and have more energy for my body,” he said.

Recreation staff at SAIT recognize the importance of fitness goals students want to achieve. As such, they strive to provide the best quality of equipment.

“One of the things that we just started to do to fulfil the project in three years is start looking at what pieces of equipment we want there,” said Negus. “What are the goals of the students and how can we provide the best service?”

Students feel motivated when they have the right equipment and space to achieve their goals.

“We have to think about the limited space and limited budget to figure out interesting ways to provide for students,” said Negus.

The new gym, which will be housed in the campus recreation centre at SAIT, which is under construction and is expected to be complete by 2027. It will be a great opportunity for students to have more space to do other recreational activities.

“If students are looking to do more core and cardio and fitness activities. It’s cool how to figure out the use of the space,” said Negus.

Students who use the gym at SAIT have the benefit and opportunity to achieve their goals with good quality machines and activities SAIT provides within the gym. There are yoga classes, HITT workouts and dance classes students can attend at the temporary SAIT gymnasium.
