Trojans women’s basketball team has new centre of attention

Melanie Thera is from the Winnipeg and plays centre for the SAIT Woman’s Trojans basketball team.

Thera started playing basketball back in junior high school.

“I started playing basketball back at the grade seven tryouts and I ended up really liking it,” said Thera a fourth-year centre for the women’s basketball team.

She started her collegiate basketball career at Olds College and played for the Broncos for three years.

She transferred to SAIT this year to take the Emergency Medical Technician certificate.

‘’I always wanted to be a paramedic,” said Thera.

“While she was playing for Olds, the SAIT Trojans were our biggest rival,” she recalls.

“It’s a lot easier to play with them (SAIT) then against them.”

I like certain aspects of Kevin Durant’s game. – Melanie Thera

She likes certain styles of players that play in the NBA. She mirrors a little bit of Kevin Durant’s game into her own and also the different techniques the big bodies of NBA use to rebound.

‘’I like certain aspects of Kevin Durant’s game, and I also like the bigger bodies that rebound ‘’said Thera.

She hopes to be a big part of the success of the SAIT Trojans women’s basketball team this season. She also hopes for some personal success as well.
