After eight years of anticipation, Five Nights at Freddy’s finally released the movie fans worldwide have been waiting for.
Gasps and jumpscares filled the air with excitement as Five Nights at Freddy’s premiered for the public on Oct. 27.
Loyal fans have been waiting since 2015 for the movie to be made with constant pauses for production. Being big names, Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson drew more people in to see it. Matthew Lillard is the main antagonist William Afton whereas Josh Hutcherson is the main protagonist Mike Schmidt.
“I didn’t expect it to be what it was,” says Mikaela Watts. “I didn’t expect it would be as jump-scary. I’d say the movie went really well, especially since there’s supposed to be two other parts,
Mikaela describes Five Nights at Freddy’s basically like a Chuck E. Cheese attraction, filled with arcade games, animatronics and pizza. The lore is very long and it started with five animatronics being stuffed with the bodies of dead children. The series is dark and has a lot of twists and turns.
“I would redirect them to MatPat’s videos,” says Olivia Thomas
MatPat is a YouTuber with millions of subscribers who helped with the popularity of Five Nights at Freddy’s. He created theory videos that explained the lore to those who had no idea what the main storyline even was. The theatre went wild and screamed when MatPat made a secret appearance in the movie.
“When I started watching game theory and internet videos about the franchise and learning about the lore is what really captured me and made me a part of the fanbase,” says Kaidan Dickeson.
The movie being made by Blumhouse added to the horror aspect of the games as Blumhouse is well known for the horror genre.
Although the movie had more thriller than actual horror.
“I think all of the creative decisions that they made complemented the story pretty well,” says Tanin Watts. “There were some key aspects from the games jumbled into the movie and thrown around a little loosely, but other than that the movie was pretty good.”
The fans went all out by dressing up for this occasion, Mikaela had Springtrap-inspired makeup whereas Thomas had Freddy-inspired makeup. Others went out with costumes, dressing as the main four animatronics Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy.
“It was amazing, I loved it so much. Abby and the animatronics being all friendly was my favourite part,” says Thomas.
When the theatre went dark, and the movie began to play, someone yelled at the top of their lungs if everyone was ready and the whole theatre shouted yes. The fans all laughed in unison and jumped when a certain character spooked them.
“It’s been a long time in the making, it’s finally here and I’m satisfied,” said Dickeson. “You end up with a lot of different expectations when a movie is supposed to come out for almost 10 years but for everything that it was, I think they cared a lot about the franchise and the community. They put a lot of work into it, and it paid off.”
Fans will most likely be getting multiple movies throughout this decade as the second movie has been confirmed. Matthew Lillard has also stated he signed a three-movie contract, so fans should be prepared for the Five Nights at Freddy’s cinematic universe to pull a William Afton and always come back.
