There’s fun amid the corn stalks at the Autumn Pumpkin Festival

October brings in the Autumn Pumpkin Festival at Calgary’s Corn Maze.

At an admission rate of $14 for ages 3 and up, the event has been a popular attraction every fall.

“It’s a perfect activity for families, couples and friends,” said Debra Channing, employee at the pumpkin patch.

“Picking out the perfect pumpkin and working together to either bake it, decorate it or carve it, I think it’s a fun group activity.”

A free miniature pumpkin is given for the purpose of the Pumpkin Patch crafts, where everyone can decorate their little gourd.

Other than mini-pumpkins, the patch offers varieties of pumpkins, based on their use.

Besides the typical pumpkin, there are ghost pumpkins, white in colour, and pie pumpkins, best for baking a seasonal treat.

The admission also includes other attractions.

With Jumping Pillows, Calgary Corn Maze Railway, Potato Sack Slide, Friendly Fire, the Candy Blast, the petting zoo and miniature golf, there’s more than enough fun for everyone.

The festival always includes the Pumpkin Blast where an air compressor is used to blow up a pumpkin, and the Candy blast, where candy is shot out of cannons for everyone to catch.

Winning the Certificate of Excellence 2015 from TripAdvisor and the Parents’ Choice Awards 2016, Calgary’s corn maze is the main attraction of the farm, bringing in visitors from all over Alberta.

The corn stalks reach a height of five feet in October after harvest, giving the maze a sense of adventure and nostalgia.

Though many of the events catch the eye of a younger people, the farm has an atmosphere that people of all ages can enjoy.

Rachel Louise, a mother of twin daughters, proves that everyone can have fun.

“I’ve been bringing the girls here since they’ve been able to walk,” she said.

“It’s kind of a tradition. We come every fall to walk through the corn maze, pick a pumpkin, take it home to carve for Thanksgiving and make pie with the leftovers.”

The corn maze holds other festivals like the Flashlight Nights, Sweet Summer Corn Fest, and the Baby Animal Festival, all just as much fun as the Autumn Pumpkin Festival.
