SAIT’s student development and counselling centre services

SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) provides the services for counselling and the development of students. A counsellor and a student provide information about the services of counselling and development centres.

Julie Egers an educational counsellor at SAIT and registered psychologist in Alberta shared the information about services at the student development and counselling centre.

Egers said when she worked starting with the counselling centre, she realized that personally likes to do work in this department because it helps people develop skills and personal awareness, which inspired her most. She loves to provide counselling to people.

“When you work in a counselling department in a post-secondary like say you are helping people really tangibly reached their goals,” said Egers.

Egers said at SAIT there are many resources and supports for students’ physical and mental development. She said it is rewarding to cooperate with other resources on campus to get rid of problems that are coming in the progressive way of students.

Egers said SAIT student development and counselling centre provides the counselling for any personal concerns, personal issues communication problems etcetera that is affecting student in different ways. SAIT’s student counselling and development centre provide its’ services about career concerns as well.

Egers said this department provides services in various ways for example by phone, in-person meetings or by zoom meetings, which is preferable for a student.

Egers said to make students comfortable to talk about their concerns or problems is a big part of a development and counselling centre. She said we can see a change in a student after talking with a counsellor like one can feel a reduction of stress in a person, who is in front of us.

Anmolpreet Kaur, a student of Hospitality and Tourism Management shared her views about the services of the student development and counselling centre of SAIT. She said she is an international student and she needed counselling for her development and to reduce the stress.

Kaur said, as she is an international student and starting everything was new for her here in Canada and she did not know how to maintain studies and work here and she was in stress, at that time she felt the need for a counsellor to reduce her stress. And she went to contact the SAIT’s student development and counselling centre, and she felt relaxed after talking with the counsellor.

Kaur said after counselling, she felt a motivational power in her soul and felt stress-free. She said it is helpful for everyone and she is happy with the services of SAIT’s student development and counselling centre.
